Vikings in Berkeley?

My friend Colin and I teamed up earlier this year to shoot this series of photos for one of my projects for the color photography class at CSU, East Bay. Colin has been an active member in the Province of the Mists branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) for several years now. As described on the group's website (link below), "The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe," which consists of "19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world." Its members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events held each year all over the US and the world, including battles and fighting tournaments (some with as many as twelve thousand participants engaging in heavy armored martial combat), arts exhibits, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Known as "Owen Fletchyr" by his fellow fighters residing in the Kingdom of the West, Colin has fought in many battles over the years with the SCA and has developed an impressive reputation as a skilled swordsman. As you can see in these photos he wasn't about to show any mercy for the scoundrel who ambushed him with bow and arrow in the park in Berkeley! Colin is also a very skilled freelance illustrator. Lassen Volcanic National Park

In the Devastated Area, Sebastian is sitting on top of some large black lava rocks which shot out of Mt. Lassen when it erupted in 1915.



The landscape photos above are from Bumpass Hell, the largest geothermal area in the park with boiling water, steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pots.
